Every semester students take their STAR assessments (Reading & Math) to identify what their strengths and weaknesses are regarding math and reading. However, in the past, the reading assessment was only given in English, but literacy skills are important in all subject areas. As a result, our professional development was about logging into STAR, identifying how students' grade level comprehension, their growth scores, and finding/implementing various intervention assignments built into STAR to address the various weaknesses students have to increase their growth. We also discussed how to group students according to academic levels or various levels as it pertains to their test scores to pull intervention assignments to address those particular groups! The great thing about this is we are truly starting to have those data conversations and utilizing it to drive our instruction!
