Teachers read Chapter 1 of Ron Berger's "Leaders of Their Own Learning". To begin, we started with Carousel Brainstorming; there were five chart papers posted around the room entitled Purpose & Benefits of Learning Targets, Unpacking the Learning Targets, Checking for Understanding, Relationships Among Standards, Learning, & Assessments, & Learning Targets=Student Ownership. Teachers were to get with a partner and reflect on the ideas that stood out to them for each concept (View responses in slideshow). Next, we id the 3 Minute Pause Activity where teachers had 5 minutes to reread pages 49-51 on Common Challenges to Learning Targets. After reading, they had three minute to summarize what they read, reflect on their experience with learning targets and list two challenges they have personally utilizing Learning Targets, two things learned to combat those challenges, and lastly probe for any deeper insight they had. Lastly, teachers had an Exit Ticket to complete in Google Classroom with the best practices of learning targets by teachers and beside each practice, explain how they will implement. Between now and December 3, teachers will record 7 learning targets they have implemented, and will bring them in for a learning target analysis when we meet again on December 3.
